Health education and healthcare. These were the main features of the activities carried out in Bolivia as part of World Chagas Disease Day, observed on April 14. Throughout the month of April, the CUIDA Chagas Project promoted a series of mobilization activities in different municipalities across the country, combining information, health services, and direct dialogue with communities, with the support of the Instituto Nacional de Laboratorios de Salud (INLASA).
The activities took place in the municipalities of Yotala, Padilla, Mairana, El Torno, Vallegrande, Villa Montes, San Lorenzo, and Uriondo, bringing together healthcare professionals and local residents in a program focused on awareness, education, and care.
Throughout the activities, educational actions on Chagas disease were carried out, addressing forms of transmission, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Rapid screening tests were also promoted, expanding access to early diagnosis, which is essential for proper follow-up care and improving the quality of life of affected individuals.
In addition, the mobilization included health fairs, community discussions, healthcare services, and the distribution of informational materials, strengthening the connection between health services and local communities. The active participation of the population was one of the most notable aspects, highlighting the importance of social mobilization in addressing the disease.
The initiative reaffirms the commitment of the CUIDA Chagas Project and INLASA to promoting health and strengthening the response to Chagas disease in Bolivia, emphasizing the central role of communities and primary healthcare in comprehensive care.
