From June 9 to 11, the CUIDA Chagas Project organized the Meeting on the Procurement Landscape of Trypanosoma cruzi Detection Tools in participating countries in Colombia. The event brought together representatives from the Ministries of Health of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, and Paraguay, as well as experts from international organizations and partner institutions, to discuss challenges and opportunities related to access to Chagas disease diagnosis in the region.

Held within the framework of the CUIDA Chagas Project, the meeting aimed to validate the results of a comprehensive study on the supply, demand, and procurement processes for diagnostic tests for Chagas disease in the four participating countries. During the three-day event, participants analyzed data, shared national experiences, and developed strategic recommendations to improve access to diagnostic tools.

The agenda included discussions on supply chains, diagnostic coverage, demand forecasting, pricing, and test accessibility, as well as the identification of barriers and opportunities to strengthen health systems. Discussions took place in plenary sessions and country-specific working groups, allowing for an in-depth analysis of the different national contexts.

Representatives from each country’s Ministry of Health, reference laboratories, Chagas disease control programs, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the World Health Organization (WHO), FIND, and Fiocruz participated in the activities, contributing to the development of proposals aligned with regional needs.

As a result, the meeting consolidated a set of strategic and operational recommendations that will guide future actions aimed at expanding access to Chagas disease diagnosis, strengthening cooperation among countries and reinforcing the region’s commitment to combating this disease.
