This clinical study, published in the renowned journal Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, provides a fundamental contribution to global public health by evaluating, for the first time, the interchangeability of medicines used in the treatment of Chagas disease. Benznidazole is produced by only three laboratories worldwide (in Brazil, Argentina, and Spain). Therefore, understanding whether these different formulations behave in the same way in the human body is crucial to ensuring the safety and continuity of treatment for people with Chagas disease, regardless of the origin of the medicine.
