Web series Living with Chagas

As part of the campaign for World Chagas Disease Day 2024, the CUIDA Chagas project launched the web series ‘Viver com Chagas’ / ‘Vivir con Chagas’ (Living with Chagas).

The series of videos tells the stories of people living with Chagas disease, their challenges, achievements and daily lives. It aims to help more and more people affected by the disease to share their experiences and have a voice in the demand for more diagnosis, treatment and care for Chagas disease.

  • Living with Chagas Ep. 9 – Deysi Cueto (Bolivia)

    Ninth episode of the web series Living with Chagas. In this chapter, we follow the story of Deysi Cueto, a pregnant woman living with Chagas disease, highlighting the challenges during pregnancy and the importance of access to timely diagnosis and care.

  • Living with Chagas Ep. 8 – Marvin (Bolivia)

    Eighth episode of the web series Living with Chagas. In this episode, we learn the story of Marvin Valdez, a healthcare worker who provides care and support to people with Chagas disease in Villamontes, Bolivia, highlighting the challenges, lessons learned, and the importance of a human-centered approach to care.

  • Living with Chagas Ep. 7 – Mercedes Sosa (Argentina)

    Mercedes Sosa became known as the voice of the ‘voiceless,’ giving expression to the struggles and hopes of the Latin American people. Her music crossed borders throughout the 1980s. But beyond her art, her life story also bears the mark of a silent struggle: for 30 years, Mercedes lived with Chagas disease, as did millions of people in Latin America.

  • Living with Chagas Ep. 6 – Maria (Brazil)

    Maria Melo is a woman of courage and dedication, born in Riachão das Neves (BA). She discovered she had Chagas disease during a blood donation test, but that did not stop her from moving forward. As a Community Health Agent (ACS), Maria has become a true care professional, serving more than 300 families in the region through the CUIDA Chagas project. She proves that, even in the face of adversity, it is possible to transform lives through love and dedication to others.

  • Living with Chagas Ep. 5 – Geraldo (Brazil)

    In this episode of the web series “Living with Chagas,” meet Geraldo, from Janaúba (MG). Thirty years ago, he discovered he had Chagas disease, and since then, medical follow-up has been essential to ensure his quality of life. His story is an inspiration to everyone living with the disease and reinforces the importance of early diagnosis and proper treatment.

  • Living with Chagas Ep. 4 – Jenny (Colômbia)

    In our fourth episode, from Boavita, Boyacá, Colombia, we share the story of Jenny Zenaida, a courageous woman fighting Chagas disease. With the support of her family and an unwavering desire to see her daughter grow up and move forward, Jenny inspires us all with her strength and determination. Her story is a reminder of the importance of prevention and early treatment of this neglected disease that affects thousands of Colombians.

  • Living with Chagas Ep. 3 – Lucimara (Brazil)

    This episode is about Lucimara, a nursing technician who lives in the city of Rosário do Sul (RS), Brazil. She likes to take time to look after herself and keep her mind and body healthy. She loves physical activities. Even in the face of the challenges posed by her illness, she faces the present and the future with great enthusiasm and confidence, always surrounded by the warm support of her family and friends.

  • Living with Chagas Ep. 02 – Bernardina (Paraguay)

    In this second episode, you will meet Bernardina. She lives with her family in Cerro León, in the department of Paraguarí, Paraguay. She was diagnosed with Chagas disease in adulthood. Her story highlights the importance of close support from healthcare professionals and a strong support network for those affected.

  • Living with Chagas Ep. 1 – Reyna (Bolívia)

    In this first episode, you will meet Reyna. She lives with her family in the community of Yotalilla, Bolivia. Reyna was diagnosed with Chagas disease when she became pregnant with her first daughter. She has not yet started treatment, but hopes to begin soon so that she can continue to support her family and ensure that her children can study.
