Mercedes Sosa became known as the voice of the “voiceless”, giving expression to the struggles and hopes of Latin American peoples. Her music crossed borders throughout the 1980s. But as well as art, her career also bears the mark of a silent struggle: for 30 years, Mercedes lived with Chagas disease, like millions of people in Latin America.
